Okay, I’ll say it: I’m a liar. I’m a bit of a snob when it comes to headsets. When I’m gaming, I want to make sure I’m having an all-around good time, and the audio quality is a big part of it.

Do I receive what I paid for with the Alienware AW510H Gaming Headset? Is it true that I’m completely immersed in that wonderful surround sound audio? Is it possible for my teammates to comprehend what I’m saying? Is it true that after just an hour of playing, my head hurts? That shouldn’t be too much to expect of a gaming-focused company, so let’s see whether the Alienware AW510H can handle it.

Aesthetic Appeal

Let’s go straight to the heart of the matter. How does the sound quality sound?

The AW510H has custom-tuned 50mm 20Hz-40KHz drivers for high-resolution audio, as well as custom-designed acoustic chambers that should provide extremely rich sound quality regardless of the game. Did they succeed? Absolutely, in my view.

This resolution includes superb 7.1 virtual surround sound, which allowed me to hear my opponents coming from miles away in any direction. As someone who enjoys first-person shooters, I rely on this feature to remain one step ahead of the competition, and without it, my speed and response time are severely restricted. In a nutshell, I was blown away from the start.

Their noise isolation adds to that functionality, since while you’re gaming, you don’t want to be distracted by what’s going on in real life. If it seems like I’m extolling the virtues of the AW510H, that’s because I am. Please bear with me while I continue to extol the virtues of this headset.

While they are not wireless, they do include a USB and AUX connector, as well as a 3.5mm jack with volume and mic mute controls. This also enables you to rapidly engage in cross-platform gaming by just connecting into your Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, or even mobile device (with the exception of new iPhones, which need an adapter).

Keep in mind, however, that the 7.1 virtual surround sound is only accessible when the computer is connected through USB. The package also includes a splitter, which comes in handy when gaming with pals.

I’m constantly on the lookout for a headset that doesn’t make me sound like I’m swallowing a bag of gravel or being buried beneath 38 weighted blankets in terms of voice quality. In my search for this, I don’t believe I’m alone.

The microphone on the AW510H is excellent. It is Discord and TIA-920 certified, and according to my buddy, I sound clear. So far, I’m satisfied with the microphone’s performance. You may further adjust the audio you’re receiving using the Alienware Command Center program (ACC), which is always a bonus.

Unfortunately, the ACC’s interface left a lot to be desired, but apart from that, the performance of this headset was exceptional for the price.

Features & Design

1629677643_663_Alienware-AW510H-Review-%E2%80%93-A-Perfect-Mid-Range-Gaming-HeadsetThe AW510H has a fantastic appearance. It arrived in excellent condition, according to Alienware’s high standards. The headset itself does not have a particularly sleek or seductive appearance, but it is well-designed nevertheless.

It is available in two colors: Lunar Light (white) and Dark Side of the Moon (black) (black). I had to go with Dark Side of the Moon since I never have a choice between white and black when it comes to my game visual choices. Always go towards the dark.

In terms of appearance, I’m completely pleased. However, based on its size, it seems that it would be excessively heavy on the head. And, although some may argue that the set is too large, I really like it that way. After about an hour or two of using most headsets, my head begins to hurt… With the AW510H, though, I found myself losing track of how long I’d been playing.

I wasn’t experiencing the headache that used to wake me up every hour. It’s definitely a positive. The size may also be adjusted to suit a wide range of head shapes and sizes. The quality of the foam on the headband and earpieces felt good on my ears, although I did wear glasses during the review, and the comfort was still consistent.

The earpiece foam is a combination of plush memory foam, sports fabric, and leatherette, giving it a pleasant, cool, and comfortable feel. In addition, despite its look, the headset is light and does not move around much when gaming.

The headset has a big L and R on the inside, and the earpieces swivel so you can wear them around your neck or store them conveniently. The mic pulls out rather than flips to mute, which is one of the main distinctions between the AW510H and its rivals (even its higher-priced predecessor). This is just a personal choice.

I like to drag the boom mic in and out as required, but make sure you’ve pulled it all the way back in before you start cursing at the other players, since they WILL hear you. The microphone also bends and adapts to your preferences and is noise-isolating to improve sound quality.

Another factor that may discourage buyers is the lack of RGB lighting on the headset itself, as well as the fact that the controls are located on the USB cord rather than on the headset itself. Neither of these features were a deal breaker for this inexperienced customer, since the cheaper price point compensated for their absence.

Overall, the appearance, feel, and sound quality are great, and it is a good candidate for your next headset at this price point. I don’t see me breaking down these headsets for a long time since the material seems sturdy and durable. It’s a sturdy headset that seems to be designed to endure, but only time will tell – I’m hard on headsets. From the feel of it, it isn’t a flimsy product, and for the price it is, that is comforting to know.

1629677643_821_Alienware-AW510H-Review-%E2%80%93-A-Perfect-Mid-Range-Gaming-HeadsetI’m not really looking at other brands since they have a pleasant feel, strong earpieces, and a beautiful style. All of the features I’m pleased to commend range from surround sound, which provides great sound quality and aids my gaming, to a boom mic, which does not muffle my speech and is retractable.

I appreciate that I can plug them in and play on a variety of systems, not just PC. The Corsair Gaming VOID RGB Elite is a close contender at this pricing range. It’s a good option that comes in at a reasonable price, but it’s not for me.

It has a flip-up mute, which is preferable to the AW510H’s retractable mic, but the overall design and form are missing in comparison to Alienware’s model’s simple, contemporary appearance. It’s also the bulkier model, weighing about 2 pounds against 0.82 pounds for Alienware. It’s almost twice as heavy. The audio quality is fairly comparable, so it really boils down to personal preference in terms of mic and overall appearance.

I didn’t expect to be so pleased with the AW510H. But there aren’t many things I can complain about. Is it possible that they are wireless? Yes. Is this a deal breaker for you? That is not the case for me. I don’t like being tethered, but I also don’t enjoy having to worry about charging.

The sound quality is outstanding. You don’t realize what you’re missing until you listen to a game’s soundtrack in high-definition surround sound, which the AW510H excels at. The bass is well balanced. This headset is excellent if you’re like me and move between console and PC gaming often.

The noise isolation also allows you to immerse yourself more fully in whatever game you’re playing. While the retractable mic isn’t as convenient as the flip-up mute microphones, I enjoy the concept of being able to quickly swap these headphones between relaxed movie viewing and games that don’t need a microphone. I don’t need to use a microphone at all.

I wish I had more gripes with the AW510H, but Alienware created a fantastic set for casual and serious gamers alike. They’re a little big and heavy, but they fit nicely on your head or around your neck nonetheless. Their look and feel are both very similar to Beats by Dr. Dre, which is a big bonus for me since I am a huge Beats lover.

Shannon Morse’s video covering the headset, AW610M Mouse, and AW510K Keyboard can be found here if you’re searching for a visual evaluation of the headset. She shows how to put on the headset and how the microphone works.

The Final Word

Sound quality is crucial when it comes to gaming. If you’re a competitive player, you need to be able to hear everything around you. If you can’t hear enemy footsteps around the corner, you’re not wearing a decent headset and will most likely respawn in 3…2… minutes.

Even if you’re a casual player, immersion is half the pleasure. Sure, you could play an Elder Scrolls game while half-listening to the music in the background, but you haven’t really experienced the game until you’ve listened to the symphony with a noise-isolating headset.

Is the Alienware AW510H Gaming Headset capable of doing so? Yes, in my view. I’m also accustomed to bad mic quality, so having a pair that not only has a fantastic input but also has a good output is a “game” changer for me.

The price is reasonable, the material is of excellent quality, and the fit is pleasant. Look no further than the AW510H, I believe you will not be disappointed. I’m going to finish this review on a sour note… I wish the headset came with some kind of storage bag, but I’ll figure out a way to get by without one.
