Ever since its Steam debut, Catherine has gone from a cult hit to an enjoyable, if not slightly flawed, experience. For all the good things it does, it’s still a fairly standard take on the visual novel genre. But it’s not a standard visual novel.

From the nostalgic past to the present, Catherine is a game that has endured for over a decade, and has continued to grow and develop over time. It’s a love letter to Japanese gaming, the best way to show it would be to showcase a full body review of the game.

Catherine was one of the first games I reviewed when I started g15tools.com, and I fell in love with it instantly. It is probably the most challenging game I have ever played, as well as one of the hardest games to master. It is extremely unforgiving and I found myself struggling at times to find my rhythm. I was so obsessed with the game that I wrote a whole article on it, which can be found at the end of this post.

Catherine, a 2011 puzzle-platformer game created by ATLUS, the renowned company behind the Persona series, has been eight years in the making. Catherine was a breath of new air for gamers looking for something different, as well as lovers of competitive puzzle games, thanks to its adult/mature overtones, dark humor, and surprisingly excellent puzzle gameplay.

Catherine: Full Body, a new release that is half remaster, part expansion, arrives eight years later. Even for those who have conquered the game’s heights, is the remade edition of this PS3/Xbox 360 puzzler worth a revisit? Let’s see whether the new ad, with all of its mature yet accessible themes, has aged well.
