Far Cry 6 Has Officially Been Announced, and will be released on the PS4, Xbox One and PC on November. However, the game will not feature a map editor like previous games. This is due to the fact that the games follow a strict storyline. Ubisoft has had to do this in order to maintain the games storyline.

Today’s Ubisoft blog post announced that Far Cry 6 will not have a map editor like previous Far Cry games. The post simply mentions that all players must have the game software installed, but contains no explanation for this. It also contains no mention of what the map editor was used for in previous games.

Far Cry 5’s map editor was a large reason that the game received so much praise from the gaming community. But, as many were quick to say on the internet, it was a bit too limited. Now, it looks like Ubisoft’s next game, Far Cry 6 may not have a map editor at all. In a recent interview with GameStop’s Gamersmash, Ubisoft Montreal’s creative director, Dan Hay, did not rule out the possibility of the Far Cry 6 map editor, but he also did not confirm its existence.

According to a recent Reddit AMA held by Ubisoft Far Cry 6 developers, the open world FPS will not have a map editor or an arcade game option like past Far Cry games, making it the first mainstream Far Cry game to do so.

DANNYonPC on Reddit merely inquired whether the map editor will return, to which game developer Alexandre Letendre responded, “No, Arcade will not return.”

“It was a tough choice to remove this mode from our plan, but it enabled us to concentrate our efforts on the main campaign, which transports players into the midst of a modern-day guerilla revolution,” Letendre adds.

The inclusion of a map editor was anticipated, since each of the major Far Cry games has always had one since Far Cry 2. Far Cry Arcade was the most recent map editor featured in Far Cry 5, and it contained a ton of assets from prior Far Cry games as well as other Ubisoft titles like Assassin’s Creed and Watch Dogs. Players could create co-op or PvP-focused maps with ample flexibility to design anything they wanted, although that mode had more misses than successes.

You can watch the whole Reddit AMA held by Far Cry 6 developers, which addressed a lot of fan questions. The thread also indicates that the wingsuit and grappling gook will be returning, which is good news for us since they made navigating the game environment a lot simpler.

It’s disappointing to hear Far Cry 6 is abandoning a tradition, but it’ll be fascinating to see what happens next. Far Cry 6 will be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Stadia, and PC on October 7.

Far Cry 5, a game we recently reviewed, does not have an in-game map editor like previous games in the series. Some fans have asked Ubisoft if this means there won’t be a map editor in Far Cry 6, too. However, Ubisoft has confirmed that Far Cry 6 will not feature a map editor, after the company initially said it planned to include one in the game..
