Hexes are the cornerstone of the Dark Souls series of games. This is the first time I’ve found myself excited about a mechanic in a game like this. Hexes are the magic system in Dark Souls 2. It’s not as bad as the first game, but it’s still not great. The number of spells in the game is not as plentiful, but you do gain the ability to modify existing spells as you progress.
Dark Souls 2 is a harsh game to play, and the game’s most powerful spells are especially devastating. These spells are known as Hexes, and in Dark Souls 2 the best three Hexes are known as Mother’s Kiss, Great Heal and Ring of Fog. Mother’s Kiss does the best damage, but Mother’s Kiss is a Hex that can kill the player in one hit. Ring of Fog does the best amount of damage, but it can be broken by a single hit from a melee weapon. Great Heal is the most useful, but it can make the player invulnerable to damage, and can be broken by a single hit from a melee weapon.
In the first Dark Souls, you could only use magic to attack and defend. This made the combat system feel repetitive and unbalanced. While Dark Souls 2 has made some improvements, some of the magic is still a bit underwhelming. However, that’s not to say you’re completely powerless in Dark Souls 2. In this article, I will show you how to get the most out of casting spells in Dark Souls 2. I’m going to cover firing, chanting, healing and healing/dealing spells, as well as a few other useful abilities.

Hexes are one of the most intriguing features to the game, but due to hidden merchants and frightening stat requirements, most people aren’t attempting them, constructing for them, or even discovering them. I’m here to debunk some of the misconceptions and fears around hexes and dark damage, and show you how even a little investment in your build may enhance it.
Stats and Scaling: They’re Not as Terrifying as You Think
Hexes and Dark Damage are a little scary since they require a significant commitment in both Intelligence and Faith, two attributes that previous Souls games told us we had to choose between. This, along with the massive stat requirements for later level hexes (60 intellect for full force affinity, 47 faith for Climax), puts a lot of players off of this playstyle right away.
First and foremost, The Dark Damage Bonus and weapons that scale with dark do not scale with intellect or faith in the same way. They use the lower of the two stats to scale. That means you’ll need to level both to get the greatest results, and a 30/30 stat distribution will let you to deal much more damage than a 40/20. Around this 30/30 mark, you’ll start to notice decreasing results. If you want the high-stat Hexes, here is where you should split apart and concentrate on only one. This is terrifying. Only 20 int and trust are required. That’s pathetic! However, you must understand that a 20/20 stat distribution between intellect and faith is in comparison to the advantages and power you’d receive with 35-40 pure intelligence or pure faith. Darkstorm (20 INT, 20 FTH) is similar to god’s wrath, whereas Great Resonant Soul (13 INT, 26 FTH) is similar to crystal soul spear. In addition, “Resonant Weapon” (15 INT, 24 FTH) is similar to a sunshine sword or a crystal magic weapon. It would be extremely simple to swap out a dex/int or dex/faith build with a hex build with a 25/25 stat distribution for a dex/faith or dex/faith build with 40 or 50 faith or int. Where do I look for vendors? Because they couldn’t locate merchants, people have switched off magic. Although this isn’t a new concept in the Souls series, you’d be shocked how many folks overlooked Griggs on their first playing. However, all of the spell dealers are very near to Majula. After defeating the Dragonrider in Heide’s Tower of Flame, you get access to all three. The Miracle Vendor will go to the “Rotunda Room” on the route to Heide’s Tower, where she will open the entrance to Huntsman’s Copse, which is adjacent to the bonfire. The first Hex trainer, Felkin, may be found on the route to Huntsman’s Copse. He’ll sell you hexes, staves, and chimes for 8 INT 8 FTH, some of the finest early in the game. Many take up two attunement slots, but if you have three, “Resonant Soul” will greatly boost your hex damage output. Early-to-mid game, “Dark Weapon” is also fantastic. He’ll also offer you the BEST hex staff (Sunset Staff) and the Hexer’s Set, the name they named the gear the Sorcerer wore in the Beta, if you have 20/20 INT/FTH. Spells: What do you think about them? I’d say it’s quite sweet. In certain situations, it’s almost overpowering. The majority of higher level hexes need two attunement slots, but their utility is immense. Darkstorm: Imagine a firestorm that was more dependable and caused more destruction. Resonant Soul does some of the most powerful damage in the early game. It takes 100 souls to launch a high-damage strike that is equivalent to Great Heavy Soul Arrow’s damage. It contains 23 functions and casts quickly. These are only a few of the greatest spells for 20/20 stat investment that are currently available. Overall? Give it a go. Hexes might be the thing for you, with new weapons that scale with darkness and new spells. The first Dark Souls 2 guide I wrote was for Dark Souls 2 Scholar of the First Sin , and I knew pretty much from the start that I wanted to do a Dark Souls 2 Hexes Guide for Dark Souls 2 Scholar of the First Sin Pt.2, but I wasn’t ready to stop there. So instead, I took the Scholar of the First Sin guide as a starting point and went on to revise the original guide, add more to it, and create a whole new section all on its own. As you might expect, this guide will be big and comprehensive, and it will include a lot of new stuff.. Read more about dark mage dark souls 2 and let us know what you think.
