NVIDIA is launching new GPUs this summer with its Turing architecture, and we’ve seen the launch schedules for the GTX 1660 and the GTX 1660 Ti, the latter of which is a refresh of the GTX 1660 Super. Both cards have the same TU106 GPU as the previous generation GTX 1660, with the same core clock speeds and same amount of CUDA cores. The 1660 Ti’s specs will also be identical to the 1660 Super’s.

What’s the difference between these three graphics cards? In this article, we are going to compare the specs of these three graphics cards in detail. We have done our best to include all the relevant details so you can know what to expect from each card.

This month, Nvidia is launching three new cards, two of which are brand new models for the high-end of the GeForce series. The GT 1030 is an entry-level card, aimed at the budget market, while the GTX 1660 is a mid-tier card and the GTX 1660 Ti is the high-end card. With today’s launch, Nvidia is dropping the price of the GTX 1660 from $199 to $119, while the GTX 1660 Ti has dropped to $299. The new card is a cut-down version of the GTX 1660 Ti, and it’s aimed at gamers who don’t need the extra performance boost of the higher-end card.

Introduction

The category of mid-tier graphics cards is maybe one of the most perplexing nowadays. In the past, there weren’t as many graphics cards in this category as there are now. In this tier, there are roughly 7-8 graphics cards with comparable performance, but the price is quite close. As a result, deciding between them may be difficult at times.

I won’t utilize all of them in this article, instead focusing on three graphics cards that are similar in age and belong to the same series. The GTX 1660 is the first card of Nvidia’s Turing series, which represents Non-Ray Tracing technology, and was released in February 2019. The Ti GTX 1660 was released at the same time, while the Super GTX 1660 was released in October.

These cards are designed for gaming at 1080p extreme settings, although their performance varies. The GTX 1660 is the slowest, whereas the GTX 1660 Super sits in the middle of the GTX 1660 and 1660 Ti. This is the most important thing to understand at first. But first, let’s look at the details of the comparison.

Specs

Cards for Graphics GTX 1660 GTX 1660 Super GTX 1660 Ti
CORES CUDA 1408 1408 1536
MEMORY 6GB GDDR5 6GB GDDR6 6GB GDDR6
SPEED OF THE CLOCK 1530/1785MHz 1530/1785MHz 1500/1770MHz
BANDWIDTH OF MEMORY 192GB/s 336GB/s 288GB/s
Memory Capacity 8Gbps 12Gbps 14Gbps
TDP 120W 125W 120W

All of these cards are built on the Turing architecture and have almost identical specifications in terms of TDP, connectivity, VR, and other Nvidia features.

However, it is the above-mentioned specifications that distinguish each of these graphics cards. The GTX 1660 has the same number of Cuda Cores as the GTX 1660 Super, while the GTX 1660 Ti includes an additional 128 Cuda Cores. In real-world performance, the GTX 1660 Ti outperforms the other two.

Each contains 6GB of VRAM, but the GTX 1660 utilizes slower GDDR5 RAM, which is one of the reasons for the GTX 1660’s poorer performance. When the GTX 1660 super is considered, however, the memory bandwidth indicates something different. While both the GTX 1660 Ti and the GTX 1660 Super utilize 6GB GDDR6 RAM, the Super version’s bandwidth is much greater than the other two.

The Super version has the same memory bandwidth as the RTX 2060, which is 336GB/s, which is approximately 16.6% faster than the GTX 1660 Ti, and a memory speed of 14Gbps, making it considerably quicker than both the Ti and non-Ti versions. Other specifications are almost identical as those of the GTX 1660, however the memory specifications set the GTX 1660 Super apart.

Performance

When the three graphics cards are compared, the GTX 1660 is the slowest, followed by the Super version in second place, and finally the GTX 1660 Ti, which is the quickest of the three. But how big of a difference is there?

The following video demonstrates benchmarks of several games using these three GPUs in conjunction with an i9 9900K processor and 16GB of 3200MHz RAM. Any potential bottlenecks should be eliminated as a result of this. Testing Games’ youtube channel conducted the testing, and additional testers had comparable results.

While all three GPUs seem to be the best options for 1080p gaming, there are minor variations in the results. The GTX 1660 Super is about 10% quicker than the GTX 1660, while the 1660 Ti is approximately 2-5 percent faster.

Pricing

The regular models of the GTX 1660 cost between $220 and $240, while the Super edition costs between $230 and 260, and most GTX 1660 Ti GPUs cost between $270 and $300. So, the difference in pricing between a GTX 1660 and a GTX 1660 Super is about $20, while the difference between a GTX 1660 Super and a GTX 1660 Ti is roughly $40.

Conclusion

When comparing price to performance, the GTX 1660 Super outperforms the GTX 1660 and Ti versions. Despite sharing the same architecture, the Super series has shown to be superior than the non-Super series. The major difference between the GTX 1660 Super and GTX 1660/Ti is the memory specifications.

The comparison in real-world gaming shows that just boosting memory bandwidth and speed may result in a substantial increase in frame rate. The GTX 1660 Super is the finest of the three GPUs for a fantastic 1080p Gaming PC Build right now. While the GTX 1660 seems to be a decent choice if you can get one for around $210, the GTX 1660 Ti is now out of the question.
