PAX Australia has been back in Melbourne, Australia since 2013. It’s a great time to meet with a diverse group of gamers from all over the world. As of 2012, PAX Australia had over 40,000 gamers visiting Melbourne over the course of the event.
Back in Melbourne, PAX Australia goes to the people. My friends and I threw ourselves into the convention and had the time of our lives. Thousands of people crammed into every nook and cranny of the Melbourne Exhibition Centre. It was an unparallelled experience, filled with many surprises. It was a great day for gaming.
For its second appearance, PAX Australia 2014 will move to a larger venue.
The world’s premier games festival, Penny Arcade Expo (PAX), will return to Melbourne in 2014. PAX Australia 2014 will have 3 times the panel capacity after moving to the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre. This move comes after a critically successful sold out premiere down under in 2013.
Originally at the Melbourne Showgrounds, PAX Australia 2014 will have a larger capacity but tickets are still going to be going fast when they become available. Community reception of the US-based Expo coming to Australia was mostly positive though some negative comments about the venue. Will the move to the larger Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre, change those opinions? PAX Australia 2014 is to be held from 31 October to 2 November.
Melbourne has been a wonderful home for PAX, according to Robert Khoo, President of Penny Arcade, and the Victorian Government has been as welcoming as the fans.
“They’ve cleared the path for brilliant local artists to be exposed on the world scale, not just by assisting us in securing a much-needed bigger space for the exhibition. Mr Khoo added, “The gaming culture here is fantastic, and PAX Australia is here to stay.”

PAX Australia 2014 will build on the success of the 2013 event and will combine exciting international and local content with community events. International guests, speakers, musicians and developers will join local game industry representatives to showcase games and community events in Australia. PAX Australia is also supported by the Interactive Games & Entertainment Association and the Game Developers Association of Australia.
Louise Asher, the Minister for Innovation, Services and Small Business, confirmed the widely anticipated return of PAX Australia to Melbourne, calling it a benefit for Victoria’s thriving gaming sector.
Ms Asher said, “PAX is the world’s top games festival, and the return of PAX Australia to Melbourne for the second year underlines Victoria’s position as a major center for games development in the Asia-Pacific region.”
“This year’s event in Melbourne was the first time PAX was hosted outside of the United States — not only was it a huge coup for Melbourne, but it was also a huge success.”
The Victorian Coalition Government, according to Ms Asher, is a significant supporter of the event and was instrumental in obtaining PAX Australia 2013 and 2014 for Victoria.
Ms Asher said, “PAX Australia provides a great chance to show off the depth and variety of Victoria’s games development industry.”
The Melbourne Conference and Exhibition Centre will host PAX Australia 2014 on the 31st and 2nd of October.
