The 35-year-old firm, which was a leading PC maker from 1990 to 2000, has sold its 19.1 percent remaining stake to Sharp and chosen to leave the laptop market. Toshiba is credited with being the first laptop maker, with the T1100 being released in 1985.

In 2018, Toshiba sold its 80.1 percent share to Sharp for $36 million, and Sharp rebranded the business Dynabook. Sharp has now exercised its right to buy the remaining shares, with Toshiba stating, “…On June 30, 2020, under the terms of the share purchase agreement, Sharp exercised a call option for the remaining outstanding, and Toshiba has completed procedures for their transfer,” after the deal was completed.
