Earlier this month, speedrunners Chris Wilczewski and Nicholas “RageRage” Flores teamed up to beat a world record for the most intense gaming session ever! Or did they? The duo pitted their skills against two other records at the same time: the fastest speedrun of Diablo 3 and the most number of kills in one game. In fact, they had so much fun that they beat both records at once!

The “Awesome Games Done Quick” (AGDQ) marathon is the biggest marathon in gaming, and its mega-popular among speedrunners. Every year, AGDQ returns with a whole host of amazing games to play, with more than 2,000 games being played on Twitch over the course of the marathon.

Over the weekend the Diablo 3 community had their collective heads together, in the form of the Diablo 3 Speedrunning community, and in less than one day smashed two world records (one for standing reach and one for total time) during Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ).

At their speedrun of Diablo 3 during Awesome Games Done Quick 2021, three Diablo 3 speedrunners, Meatr0o, Heckson, and Whisperra, recently broke the world record for beating the game in the three-player category as well as the world record for the four-player category.

That’s two world records in one run, and if you were watching the speedrun on Twitch, you’d see that they only recognized what they’d done after defeating Malthael and speaking with Tyriel to call time. Speedrun.com has verified and documented it.

It was an incredible playing, as they completed the basic game and Diablo 3’s sole expansion, Reaper of Souls, in just 1:19:15. It was particularly special since the 4-player category was more difficult to conquer because you had to cooperate with a fourth person, not to mention bosses would fall quicker with the additional assistance.

It was amusing to watch all three players work together so well, employing strategies such as having one player complete the quest objectives while the other prepares to talk to the NPC to complete the quest, then teleport to the other player who has already found the path to the next area to continue. They also work together to shatter pots, which leads in a boost in movement speed if you smash a succession of pots in a short period of time.

Below is a video of the run.

In early June, two World Records were broken during the awesome games done quick marathon at Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ). One of the records was for the world’s fastest time in Diablo 3, achieved by a speedrunner named “The_Trigger_Pedro”. He went on to set the two world records while streaming live from the event..
