Overclocking is a process by which the clock speed of a computer’s central processing unit (CPU) is increased beyond its manufacturer-specified maximum. This can provide performance benefits in some applications, but it can also lead to instability and potential damage to hardware components such as the motherboard or CPU.

The is overclocking worth it reddit is a question that has been asked by many people. Many people believe that overclocking is not worth it because the performance increase is minimal.

Nowadays, overclocking is very common. Overclocking has become fashionable, even if the results may fall short of expectations. That includes myself. I’ve tried overclocking CPUs on everything from Intel unlocked processors to AMD processors, and I’ve spent a lot of money doing it. And, yes, it can be difficult at times. When it comes to overclocking, there are numerous topics to discuss. So, I’ll do my best to organize this article so that you can understand overclocking and its advantages and disadvantages.

What is the definition of overclocking?

This response is for those who have no idea what overclocking is. In simple terms, it’s the process of increasing your PC’s performance by increasing the clock speeds of your CPU, GPU, or RAM. The clocks on the CPU, GPU, and RAM are all different, and they come in different varieties depending on the price you pay for them.

So, let’s get started.

CPU:- It’s the main and central component, and it’s the one that gets the most overclocking attention. CPUs are divided into two categories: locked and unlocked. To figure out which processor you have, go to its official website and look up its specifications. But, to make things easier for you, I’ve included a simple rule for determining whether or not your CPU is unlocked:-

1. For Intel CPUs: If your CPU is an i3/i5 or i7, and the model number of your processor ends in “K,” it is an unlocked processor. It’s a simple rule that you should adhere to.

2. For AMD processors: In general, all AM3 and AM4 processors can be overclocked, and there is no way to tell whether a processor is unlocked or not. So, keep in mind that if your CPU has an AM3 or AM4 socket, it can be overclocked.

Almost every graphics card can be overclocked. It makes no difference whether the graphics card is low-end or high-end. It’s still possible to overclock it.

Memory: Memory, also referred to as RAM, can be overclocked or not. You must manually check this by visiting the company’s official website. Because DDR4 is the most commonly used memory today, the starting frequency will be 2133Mhz and will increase to more than 3200Mhz. Some memories will not go faster than 2133MHz, while others will go faster than 3200MHz. And some will be stuck in the middle, despite the fact that its specifications state that it can be overclocked to 3200Mhz. As a result, it’s more complicated than the CPU and GPU.

Overclocking isn’t required.

Overclocking is for enthusiasts as well as those who are experiencing lower-than-expected performance. If the fps drop in games causes the fps to drop below 50, making it stuttery to play, a person with a budget gaming PC trying to get 60+ fps at a specific resolution may need to overclock the most. Overclocking is required to achieve close to 60 frames per second if the components support it. Otherwise, those who play games at 60+ frames per second on ultra settings with no fps drops don’t require it.

Those who expect the fps to be well above 60, as in CSGO, are considered enthusiasts. In a game like CSGO, the difference between 100 and 200 frames per second is noticeable, and overclocking may be required. Aside from gaming, an enthusiast who records gameplay and edits videos will undoubtedly require overclocking to speed up the rendering process.

What else do you require to overclock?

In addition to the CPU, GPU, and memory, an unlocked motherboard is required for overclocking. If your motherboard chipset is locked, you won’t be able to get much use out of your components. Although graphics cards can be overclocked on a locked motherboard, you can’t overclock the CPU or memory without special software and there are still a lot of requirements to meet. So, if your motherboard is locked, forget about overclocking.

Consider the following factors to determine whether or not your motherboard can be overclocked:-

1. For Intel CPUs: You can overclock your CPU if your motherboard has a Z170/Z270/Z370 OR X79/X99/X299 chipset. You can’t overclock anything except these chipsets.

2. For AMD CPUs: You can overclock your CPU if your motherboard has a chipset of 970/990FXA for AM3 or B350/X370/X399 for Ryzen CPUs.

To overclock, you’ll also need the following tools: –

1. Overclocking software such as Asus AI Suite 3 (for ASUS motherboards only), Motherboard tools, AMD Ryzen Master, etc. 1. Overclocking software such as Asus AI Suite 3 (for ASUS motherboards only), Motherboard tools, AMD Ryzen Master, etc. This can be accomplished with a variety of tools. The following is a list of some of the best CPU overclocking tools.

2. In terms of graphics cards, MSI Afterburner is the best. However, there are overclocking tools available from the graphics card’s manufacturer. You can make use of them as well.

Where do I begin?

Overclocking your CPU, RAM, and graphics card may be done in a variety of methods. Overclocking is done in a different way for each piece of hardware. Because of the architectural changes, you can’t expect a Ryzen CPU to be overclocked the same way an Intel Coffee Lake chip is. As a result, I won’t be able to list every method. Simply learn how to use the tools I’ve listed above.

It’s very simple to set up the graphics card. All you have to do is raise the sliders in MSI Afterburner that control the Core and Memory clocks. You should not adjust the voltage on your graphics card at this time because it is dangerous. Despite the fact that I know how to use it, I still avoid it. However, in order to overclock a CPU, you must acquire a specific level of boost, which you should undertake at your own risk.

Is it dangerous?

Yes, it is correct. If you are unfamiliar with the sophisticated technique of overclocking, you should only raise the clocks until your computer becomes unstable. It won’t change anything, and you shouldn’t be concerned till then. When it comes to sophisticated overclocking, which necessitates increasing specific kinds of voltages, you must first learn about your processor’s maximum voltage and maximum temperature thresholds. Before you reach a point when your computer becomes unreliable, take modest steps and test for a long period. Then go back a few steps from where your PC got unstable. You’re protected till then.

So, how can you tell whether overclocking is beneficial or not?

The easiest method to find out is to do an experiment, which I will demonstrate using my own RIG. I have a very high-end gaming PC on which I will evaluate the effects of overclocking and determine whether or not spending more money on components is a smart idea at this moment. Although, since the findings may vary depending on the components, this is a subjective test rather than an objective one. This tutorial is not intended to be a test of just the components that I use; rather, it serves as an example.

But first, bear in mind that in order to get a significant advantage, all three components must be overclockable: GPU, CPU, and RAM. Otherwise, overclocking one item while not overclocking the other may not be as feasible. In order to be successful, you must maintain a sense of balance in all aspects of your life.

Real-world testing

My Rig

Ryzen 7 1700X CPU

Gskill Ripjaws V series 32GB 3200Mhz memory

Gigabyte AX370 Gaming 5 Motherboard

MSI GTX 1080 Ti Gaming X graphics card

As a result, I evaluated the performance at the lowest possible clocks as well as the highest but safest clocks. Because Ryzen CPUs are not as reliable as Intel CPUs, the results I obtained may vary somewhat from person to person.

Benchmarking and testing

In the first test, I set the Ryzen 1700X’s core speed to 3.4GHz and the memory clock to 2133MHz. The graphics card was also not even slightly overclocked. Heaven and Passmark were used to evaluate the performance. In real-world testing, I utilized a video editor named Corel Movie Studio to produce a 700MB video and in the CPU and GPU demanding game PUBG.

To compare the performance of base clocks, I raised the Core clock of the 1700X to 3.9GHz on 1.38Volts, but it wasn’t stable, so I had to reduce it to 3.8GHz, which is still a reasonable level of overclocking. Memory was pushed to 2666Mhz, and it wouldn’t boot above that. There were a lot of strange things going on with the graphics card. First, I raised the core and memory clocks to +100Mhz and +275Mhz, respectively. Fortunately, everything worked in Heaven and video rendering tests, but I was unable to run the system without issue in Passmark and games. The working clocks were +50Mhz for the Core clock and +100Mhz for the Memory clock.

When I performed the testing, all three components were either set to run on base clocks or they were all overclocked at the same time. So don’t be fooled by the accompanying graphs into thinking that the overclocked results are due to a certain component. These graphs are the outcome of overclocking all three components at the same time.

Note: Pay close attention to the numbers rather than the bars since Excel leaves too much space between them, even if the changes are little. On reddit, I was hammered as a result of this.

Is it worthwhile to overclock, in my opinion? Then yes, but only to a certain degree. You can certainly obtain greater speed in programs like as video editors and graphics tools, but it’s tough to see the difference in games. Because the scenario in the game is different every time you play, the outcomes vary greatly. However, if you have the hardware for overclocking, I recommend just going up to a point where you feel comfortable using your system since excessive overclocking reduces component life-span.

The Overwatch anniversary event is coming soon, and Blizzard has finally revealed the release date. This video contains information about the upcoming event, as well as some of the new features that will be available.

The when is overwatch anniversary is a question that has been asked for quite some time. A leaked video released by Blizzard Entertainment reveals information about the Overwatch Anniversary Event and its release date.

Blizzard’s mega-hit “Overwatch” is currently one of the most popular games among gamers all over the world, and with the recent leakage of a video that teases information about the upcoming Overwatch’s Anniversary Event ahead of any official confirmation, the leak also provides information on its release schedule, which starts on May 22nd, 2018.

The video was immediately deleted by the creators, but not before it was recorded by its admirers. The videos are shown in a Reddit thread, and shortly after they were posted, a slew of excited admirers began speculating on different possibilities. The Overwatch development team is pushing them to provide frequent updates in order to satisfy its supporters. They just published a patch that nerfs Hanzo, Junkrat, Lucio, Tracer, Genji, and Brigitte, among other characters.

Here are some other options for you:- Best Fps Games

Overwatch’s second birthday celebration will begin on May 22 and will include skins and brawls from prior events, according to information obtained from the Brazilian Overwatch Twitter account. We’ve seen instances in the last several months when these sorts of leaks have gotten out long before they’ve been formally disclosed. The video above shows Junkrat receiving a new skin and Roadhog dancing in a number of skins that we’ve seen before at previous events. The new Junkrat pirate skin comes with sabers, an eye patch, and a prosthetic limb fashioned of a skull with blazing green eyes on top of a metal hook, giving it the appearance of a ruthless pirate. However, there is no word on whether we will see any new skins except Junkrat, apart from the fact that the majority of the items and brawls will be from previous events.

Another point on which most of us agree is that many players were dissatisfied with the pricing of goods at the last anniversary event, which was much higher. New maps and 11 legendary skins were introduced to last year’s anniversary event. These pricing have not changed, but Blizzard is obviously listening to its audience, and we may see some adjustments in the near future.

Lenovo laptops are not getting the H.264 encoding codec feature since April, and that’s a big problem for gamers who use these computers. If you’re looking to buy a new laptop, this is something to keep in mind before making your purchase.

Lenovo laptops are not getting the H.264 encoding codec feature since April. The lenovo bios update is a software update that fixes this issue and enables the laptop to get the H.264 encoding codec feature again.

Lenovo was recently accused of quietly removing an essential functionality from BIOS upgrades. As of today, we know that certain Legion laptops just got a BIOS upgrade that quietly disabled the function. This specific update is only available to Lenovo Legion laptop customers in Germany.

Many people have posted about this issue on Lenovo’s forum. The H.264 encoding codec is one of the features that has been eliminated by the upgrade. Nvidia uses the codec in order to execute Shadowplay. Software that supports NVENC encoding also uses the encoders.

Users reported crashing problems with Shadowplay, OBS failing to record/stream, and even the Oculus Quest 2 failing to broadcast video when the encoder was silently removed. Lenovo did not offer any information on the feature’s withdrawal. The only option to solve the problem was to return to an older BIOS, however this method does not work with the current model.

This problem seems to be limited to laptops sold or used in Germany. The primary reason for this move may be directly related to a legal dispute between Nokia and Lenovo. However, we do not have any formal confirmation on this.

Konami is one of the most popular gaming companies in Japan, but it has recently angered its player base by charging $10 for an extra save slot. The company claims this is because of increased costs and development time, but many players feel they are being charged for a service that should be free.

Metal Gear Survive, a game created by Konami, was just released, and it has already sparked a lot of debate. In light of recent revelations regarding microtransactions, fans were outraged to learn that an additional save space in Metal Gear Survive will cost them $10.

Long-time Metal Gear fans may still have grudges towards Konami for the manner series creator Hideo Kojima departed the business in 2015. Six months later, the studio announced Metal Gear Survive. When it first came out of beta a week ago, the game received mixed reviews.

Many people have also expressed dissatisfaction with the game’s boring gameplay, which includes obnoxious survival mechanisms and unpolished fighting. This has sparked considerable debate regarding Konami’s aim to make as much money as possible from the game’s purchasers. The game begins with a single character save, and the player must spend the in-game money “SV coins” to acquire more slots.

The price ranges from $0.99 for 100 coins to $49.99 for 6000 SV coins. As previously stated, the additional save spot will cost 1150 coins, which is about $9.99. Cosmetic goods and character/experience enhancements may be purchased with coins, much as in other microtransaction games. Metal Gear Survive, on the other hand, does not enable you to acquire the money via regular gameplay. They do, however, reward you with a little amount of currency for signing in.

Many gamers, on the other hand, claim that since Metal Gear Survive is just $40 instead of $60, the additional $10 for a save space isn’t a huge issue and isn’t driven only by greed. Some argue that having one save slot is sufficient and that adding another is unnecessary.

Metal Gear Survive is now available on Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

DDR3 memory is still the standard, but there are rumors that it will be replaced by GDDR5. What does this mean for gamers?

word-image-5234

You’re probably debating what to do next with your construction. Should you construct a gaming computer using your older ddr3 memories or should you build a Skylake/Haswell-E gaming machine with faster ddr4 memories and totally forgo ddr3 ram?

The answer is more complicated than a simple YES or NO. Well, in this article, I’m going to clear up the misunderstanding between ddr3 and ddr4 memory selection using real-world examples and resources so you can make an informed decision about your design. Memory plays a different function in gaming than it does in most cases when selecting between two strong graphics cards.

Because games heavily rely on the CPU and GPU, claiming that ddr4 memory would perform better in gaming because they are clocked higher and use less power isn’t adequate to support the claim.

Due to lower costs and the usage of Skylake CPUs, DDR4 memory are becoming more popular among gamers and non-gamers alike. The primary rationale for using ddr4 memory modules is that the core i3/i5/i7 sixth generation CPUs are almost same in price to Haswell processors.

But what if you have an AMD system or a non-Skylake/Haswell-E configuration? Is it true that ddr3 memory isn’t worth the money, and that they should be abandoned right now?

Comparison of Speeds

THE MYTH #1: “In the Ram area, speed is frequently misunderstood. People believe that speed equals performance, but when it comes to real-world benchmarks, the results aren’t that impressive.” BUT, ACTUALLY? It doesn’t matter how fast you go.

THE MYTH #2: “A RAM’s performance is determined by its frequency and CAS delay.” In general, faster RAM has greater CAS delay, which cancels each other out and gives almost identical performance.” Again, to some degree, you are correct.

So, here’s a video of Linus comparing memory clocked at various frequencies:

To be honest, this video is fine for the most part. He’s a huge tech, and I’m nothing in comparison. But, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but

The “True Latency” of a Ram module is not the CAS latency. Allow me to explain this in layman’s terms. This is how a memory works:-

The necessary bandwidth to transmit the data is determined by the amount of frequency it possesses. A Ram module can transfer more data at a higher frequency. However, it operates in cycles, and each Ram module has a certain amount of cycles, referred to as CAS latency. It may vary from three to eighteen. The Ram will be quicker if the number of cycles is reduced. SDR and DDR memory modules have three CAS latency in earlier generations of RAM. Does this imply that they will react to an operation more quickly?

NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO However, each cycle has its own set of timings. SDR and DDR modules, for example, have one cycle of 8 and 6 NS (nanoseconds), respectively, while DDR3 memory clocked at 1333Mhz have one cycle of 1.5 NS, which is much less than SDR and DDR Ram modules. Although 1333Mhz DDR3 Ram has a CAS latency of 9, the total actual latency of DDR3 memory is considerably lower. The following formula may be used to do this:

Clock cycle time(NS) x CAS Latency/ Number of clock cycles = True Latency(NS).

So, if a Ram module has a higher CAS latency but a much shorter clock cycle time, it will function quicker.

Speed vs latencyLatency vs. speed www.crucial.com is a good place to start.

So, what’s the verdict? The chart above shows that the lowest possible real latency is 13.50, which is for a DDR3 1333Mhz Ram module. As the frequency rose, the true latency increased a little bit as well, but owing to the higher speeds, they will function almost similarly. When it came down to it, the actual latency of DDR4 2666Mhz memory modules was the same as that of DDR3 1333Mhz memory modules.

As a result, the DDR4 2666Mhz RAM module will perform better and is the best option.

Support and power usage

DDR3 memories operate at 1.5V, while DDR4 memories operate at 1.25V. As a result, we’ve made a modest improvement over the prior generation. Although voltage is not equivalent to power consumption, lower voltage devices operating under the same conditions will need less power in principle and practice. I can only presume what major authority websites like Anandtech.com and eetimes.com have said since I don’t have sources for exact power usage of both kinds of memory.

However, even if DDR4 memories use less power, the difference in overall power consumption of a single system isn’t significant enough to infer that you should exclusively use DDR4 memories. However, in workstations with hundreds of high-end computers, DDR4 is unquestionably the way to go. Because each computer’s power savings add up to a significant amount of power savings.

But what about assistance? How much memory can you fit into a DDR3 or DDR4 system? A DDR3 memory-based system can support up to 128GB of memory, while a DDR4 memory-based system can support up to 512GB of memory, according to the source eetimes.com. So, what’s the point? You’re not going to be able to have that much. Even 32 GB of DDR3 or DDR4 memory is excessively large for a gaming computer.

So, if we just consider a Gaming Computer, there is no winner between DDR3 and DDR4 memory.

Performance

When it comes to real-world game performance, we need to look at the data rather than the theory. Anandtech.com compared the two in a variety of games, and the results were generally in line with predictions. In games where the GPU was integrated, the DDR4 memories performed much faster than the DDR3 memories, but with dedicated graphics cards, the difference was not noticeable at all, regardless of whether they were low end or high end.

However, in non-gaming programs such as Winrar, the DDR4 beat the DDR3 by a significant margin and was quicker.

Price

DDR4 memory prices were formerly extremely expensive, but as Skylake systems became more popular, they began to cost about the same as DDR3 memories. A single stick of Crucial Ballistix DDR3 memory rated at 1600Mhz costs about $30, while a DDR4 Crucial 2400Mhz memory costs around the same. Similarly, Kingston sells 16GB of DDR3 memory for $75, and the same applies for 16GB of DDR4 memory modules for $75, but the clock speeds are different.

Conclusion

After considering all of these aspects, we’ve determined that DDR4 memory are best suited for gaming and non-gaming applications, particularly when utilizing the integrated graphics unit. But does this mean DDR3 should be abandoned?

No, if you have DDR3 memory or wish to construct a system with DDR3 memory, go ahead. Don’t believe anybody until credible evidence emerges that DDR4 memory are significantly quicker in gaming than DDR3 equivalents. However, if you’re building a brand-new gaming rig, I’d recommend DDR4 for the time being. However, upgrading your computer to a newer CPU and motherboard just for the purpose of adding DDR4 memory is a waste of money.

The ddr3 vs ddr4 performance is a question that has been on the minds of gamers for a while. There are many factors to consider when deciding between the two types of memory, but ultimately it is up to the user to decide which type they will use.

Hard disk drives will soon follow in the footsteps of floppy disk drives and end their chapter. They will very certainly be phased out of data centers when better solid state drives become available. Intel has recently unveiled the first 12-inch ruler solid state drive, which can hold 32 terabytes. Large corporations that need TB SSDs for cloud and data center operations will be the first to benefit from such an innovation. Companies such as IBM, Tencent, and Microsoft are said to be considering ways to utilize Intel’s ruler SSDs to help their storage systems.

The remarkable characteristics of the new Intel first ruler SSD have replaced the traditional spinning hard disk drive, which often requires fans, requires an expensive cooling system, and has a short lifespan. The ruler SSD is intended to store data up to 32TB in 5% of the space that a traditional hard drive requires, while using a tenth of the power. It’s so cleverly designed that it only needs half the airflow that previous solid state drives used to keep the heat at bay.

The ruler SSDs could be stacked up side by side to store up to a petabyte in a single server slot, according to Intel. For the time being, Intel’s sole potential rival is Samsung. Samsung just launched a 4 terabyte SSD with a 1 terabit chip. Samsung promises its consumers that TB SSDs will be available shortly. What are your thoughts on Intel, SSDs, and HDDs? The latest Intel Iris Xe GPU is now available in pre-built CyberPowerPC gaming PCs. This powerful new graphics card is designed to deliver the most immersive games, movies, and videos ever experienced on a PC.

The intel xe gpu is now available in pre-built CyberPowerPC gaming PCs. This GPU offers a huge performance boost for Intel processors, with an average of 3x the performance of the previous generation.

We revealed two weeks ago that Intel is preparing to release the much-anticipated DG2 graphics cards this year, and while you wait for the first batch of Intel graphics cards to arrive, Intel has already bundled the entry-level Iris Xe GPU with pre-built PCs on Bestbuy.com.

The DG1 GPU of the Iris Xe is based on the Xe-LP architecture and is designed for entry-level gaming. As a result, don’t expect it to perform as well as DG2 GPUs. However, since there are presently no GPUs on the market, we have an extra chance to purchase something that is better than nothing.

The pre-built gaming system from CyberPowerPC includes an Intel Core i5 11400F CPU with 6 cores and 12 threads, as well as an MSI motherboard. Because the i5 11400F is a locked processor, it’s most likely an H510 chipset motherboard. Storage is provided by a 500GB SSD and 8GB DDR4 RAM.

CyberPowerPC Intel Iris Xe GPU

The Iris Xe GPU is a single-slot card that appears similar to an Nvidia Quadro GPU and does not have a fan on the heatsink, as shown in the images. As a result, the passive heatsink will provide cooling, which should be enough given that the TDP of this card is less than 75W, allowing it to operate only on PCI-E x16 power.

Iris Xe has a total of 80 Execution Units and 4GB of LPDDR4X memory. Although this is not as good as the DG2 GPUs, it is still sufficient for eSports and casual gaming at 1080p. This PC is now available for $750, which is a fantastic bargain given how tough it is to get a 1080p entry-level GPU at the moment. You’ll also receive a free CyberPowerPC gaming keyboard and mouse, as well as a three-month membership to Webroot Internet Security with Antivirus.
