The Acer Predator XB281HK is one of the most expensive monitors on the market, but is it worth the money? I will say it is. I was a little hesitant to start reviewing it because of its monstrous price tag, but once I unboxed it and started playing around with it, I have to say that it is well worth the money.

I recently purchased the Acer XB281HK monitor that is marketed as the “world’s first” 4K display with NVIDIA G-Sync enabled. And I’ll be totally honest: I’m not really sure what’s so great about it.

Acer’s new XB281HK 4K gaming monitor is a glimpse at the future of gaming displays.

I intended to purchase a gaming monitor that would live up to my desired graphics capabilities after recently building a gaming PC with a pretty high-end graphics card, and the Acer Predator XB281HK was what I thought would fulfill those expectations.

When it came to choosing a monitor, I wanted something with 4K capabilities and a screen size of about 28 inches. I wanted to go with a refresh rate of 144HZ, but it wasn’t a big deal for me.

Speakers Built-In

I really wanted to start my review with the device’s greatest flaw, which is the monitor’s built-in sound. To put it bluntly, the speakers are dreadful to say the least.

At best, the sound is tinny; cranking up the volume to maximum would distort the noises, and at the other end of the spectrum, it will be much too quiet to hear anything.

Acer Predator XB281HK Stand

Fortunately, I had a Beat Pill Plus, and I had a lightbulb moment and realized that I could connect the audio jack and lightning connection directly to the PC, which immediately fixed the issue.

Apart from not having a gaming chair, I usually wear my Turtle Beach wireless headphone whenever I play, so this provides a full-on gaming experience.

If you’re searching for a screen with excellent sound, stay away from this one.

The determining element is the quality of the gameplay and footage.

Despite the fact that the screen’s sound is a bit of a letdown, the gadget soon makes up for it in terms of gaming video quality.

I just watched a Netflix program in Ultra HD and can honestly say I’ve never seen quality like it – frames are sharp and clear, and the difference between regular HD and Ultra HD is noticeable. I’ll admit that I’ve yet to play a game at 4K resolution, but I’ve seen titles like XCOM 2 and Civ 6 that look stunning.

Acer Predator XB281HK Civilization 6

This monitor has a 1ms reaction rate, ULMB (Ultra Low Motion Blur), and blue light filtering to assist your eyes during extended gaming sessions, despite not being 144HZ.

It also has Nvidia G-SYNC technology, which, for those unfamiliar, means that your monitor will sync with your graphics card (provided it has a high spec) to prevent screen tearing and minimize the unpleasant stuttering you frequently experience when gaming.

So, what are the standard inputs?

The Acer Predator comes with HDMI, Display Port, and a speedy USB 3.0 port, as you’d expect for a computer in this price bracket. Personally, I have USB 3 on my PC, but it’s always good to have an extra connection in case you need it.

Is the design of the Acer Predator XB281HK any good?

I was first dubious of the design, but I quickly came to like it. It seems to be a gaming monitor rather than a television. I adore the red and black finish, and it looks like a beast while playing games.

Acer Predator XB281HK Swivel

When you take the monitor out of the box, it comes in three parts: the stand, the arm, and the screen, and all you have to do is slide it in and tighten a thumb screw to put it together. The screen can be swiveled and raised/lowered – I was first concerned since it seemed to be very high up. It was only then that I realized it was adjustable.

Conclusion of Star Struck Gaming

Aside from the poor sound, I can’t think of any major flaws with this device; it produces high-quality video and has a beautiful design. When you consider that it’s 4K and the size of the screen, the pricing is probably about appropriate. I’d give this a thumbs up in general.
